WKCE Testing Done!

November 5, 2008 · 1 Comment

Fourth graders worked hard this week on their WKCE tests. They had a lot of tests to take this year – Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science – but each student did his or her best to “show what you know.”  Good job, 4K!

Classroom Tips

November 5, 2008 · 2 Comments

Room 201 is usually quite comfortable in terms of temperature.  However, I have suggested to students that they bring an extra sweatshirt or sweater to hang in lockers in case the classroom temperature cools down.  As the snow falls, extra mittens/gloves and socks are also helpful.

Assignment Notebooks

November 5, 2008 · No Comments

Please ask your fourth grader to show you his or her Assignment Notebook each evening. It is a good way to start the “What did you do in school today?” conversation, as well as provide an opportunity for families to provide any assistance that fourth graders may need.

4K@Richards Blog

November 5, 2008 · No Comments

Students will soon be learning how to post articles to the 4K@Richards Student Blog in school. They will also be able to post articles at home, so after I teach students how to accomplish this task, I will send home an identical copy of the directions to keep at home. To see work from last year’s 4K students, click on the link for the 4K@ Richards blog under Blogroll from the class blog page.

Respect

November 5, 2008 · No Comments

The Richards Fourth Grade team has chosen to work with students on the theme of Respect this year. Students will work on a variety of activities, including guidance classes, as we focus in on this important life skill. Our specials teachers fill out a short report each time fourth graders have art, music, phy ed, choir, library, and French class, so students understand that respect is an important part of the entire school day.

Students were assessed on paragraph organization, main idea sentence, supporting detail sentences, and concluding sentence, as well as spelling and conventions. Click on the link in the Categories section on the right side of the page to read 4K’s “Goals for the Year.”

WFB fourth graders will be taking the WKCE test during the week of Nov. 3 - Nov. 7, 2008.  Students should eat healthy foods and get enough sleep this week so they are able to do their personal best on the standardized tests. Please do not schedule any appointments that will take students out of school during this week. Thank you!

Midterm Progress Reports

October 18, 2008 · No Comments

Midterm progress reports for Gr. 4 are being sent home in today’s Richards Friday folder.  Please sign the top sheet and send it back to school on Monday. We can discuss any questions you – or your fourth grader – have during our upcoming parent-teacher conferences.

In class we talk about progress reports and report cards being “private business” between a child and his or her parents/guardians. I highly discourage sharing and comparing progress report and report card information with friends, classmates, and maybe even older brothers or sisters! However, we always shared our report cards with our Grandma Floy who was always a great cheerleader for my brothers and sisters and me. :-)

Since this is the first time that students have received letter grades, please read the progress reports together. Talk about areas of strength and areas to improve over the next few weeks before report cards come home. Materials from our September Orientation meeting may be helpful to explain the grading system. Ask your fourth grader to make a plan for improvement in at least one academic area and brainstorm specific ways to improve that area.

My goal for fourth grade

October 14, 2008 · No Comments

By AlisonH

My goal for fourth grade is to get better at math because I’m not that good at it.  To get better I’m going  to  practice my math facts and look at my report card every time I get it. Also my parents can help me get better at math. On math  tests I’ll focus really well because I usually get really frusterated. And that’s my goal for fourth grade.

Going for the goal

October 14, 2008 · No Comments

By Evangeline

Here is my plan for forth grade. The goal for this year is for me to get better at writing and describing my projects, this is how I’ll try to solve it. Every other day I will ask someone to give me a topic , then I’ll write some descriptions and tell someone what I wrote . Another way I’ll  practice is I’d take a picture and make some comments like, “This robins crest is a light butter yellow.” Or “that foxes tale is a fire burning red.” I also will   write a descriptive paragraph about a topic I know lots about. I think this will help my grades because in math, reading, and writing we describe things a lot of the

In science I want to explore more. In physical education I want to get more athletic. In Art I want to be a better creator and be more realistic. And just get better at all the subjects.

Going for the Goal

By Vlada

This year, I would like to make many friends because I think that I will have a lot more practice talking to people, and understanding other peoples feelings. Making friends in your childhood is very important because when you grow up you will always need your friends to guide you. Another reason why I want to make many friends this year is because they will help you through any situation or problem. What I also like about making friends is that you always have fun together. This is my goal for the year, and I will do everything to accomplish it!

Going for the Goal

October 13, 2008 · No Comments

By De’ana

For forth grade, I have many goals. The one I really want to work on is checking over my work. After I am done with a test the teacher says to check over my work, now I know why. Like if you have a math test and you are aloud to use your math book. I usually would look at the paper or not think that hard. This year I am to double check my paper and use my math or social studies or science exc. Book. This year I am going to check over my work.
